Geraldene’s wide and extensive knowledge and appreciation of nature stems from her childhood passions in biology and ecology, and deep love and spiritual connections. This has grown to resonate in her search for the care and restoration of salt and freshwater wetland, urban ecology, riparian areas and waterway rehabilitation. Propelling Geraldene to become one of Australia’s leading ecologists and frequent guest speaker on Natural Resource Management.

Known for connecting people with place, and her acknowledgement and advice seeking from First People knowledge holders, Geraldene’s enthusiasm for urban ecology and waterways is backed by a deep appreciation of First Peoples.

During her early professional years she worked with wetland expert Geoff Sainty of Sainty and Associates for over five years and spent eight years as Manager of Environment and Education on the Northern beaches council.

With such broad professional experiences Geraldene has gained an understanding of working with Government Agencies and developed a range of skills in experimental design, environmental legal work, strategic planning and is an accredited BioBank Assessor.

Geraldene became a joint author in Burnum Burnum’s popular book Wildthings, and her chapter engaging community in rehabilitation in Estuary Plants of East Coast Australia, has enabled her to share passions about the wonderful house we call Earth.

The love and passion for nature, which Geraldene has nurtured from childhood, has flourished, to emerge in her strive for change and balance, within urban development.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (Hons I), Sydney University, 1995. Majoring in Zoology, Ecology and Botany.
